Portland Jewish Academy: STEAM and Maker Integrator & Project-Based Learning Coordinator

Portland Jewish Academy is a Pre-K to 8th grade academic powerhouse with a respectful, cool, and creative community. Part of my role is to manage and develop our school makerspace, which I started with yard sale finds and a lot of heart and help from colleagues!  Check out how it has evolved with support from administrators, other teachers, parents, students, and my maker community.

Another part of my role is to collaborate and team teach with classroom teachers to integrate curriculum across subject areas such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) and integrate Makerspace curriculum.  I'm also working with faculty to develop curriculum and practices around Project-Based Learning and Teaching. I love this community and the work I am lucky to do here.

TinkerCamp & TinkerEDU

Tinker Camp creates a tools and materials-rich environment that engages kids in grades 3-8 in narrrative-based tinkering and making. We know that discovery and experimentation includes making mistakes, so we create space for kids to be creative, courageous and tenacious in the face of challenges. I'm an honorary co-founder and Senior Education Designer at Tinker Camp. Almost three years ago, we started TinkerEDU in response to the growing demand from schools, educators, teachers, and other maker educators to learn our narrative-based tinkering methods. I have worked with districts in Portland and Vancouver to train and mentor their maker educators, teachers, and staff. If you're in the Portland, OR area - join our Meetup  and come to our "Tinker for Adults" events.
