Initially, our goal was to create a "STEAM Cart" to move maker tools and materials around the school. When a classroom became available, the plan quickly shifted to a "rapid prototype of a school makerspace".

I improvised work tables with whatever furniture I could find around the school, and fellow teachers donated items from their classrooms.  Another teacher and I took to garage sales looking for tools and materials. Craigslist and community donations filled out our remaining tools and materials needs.

As we "lived in" the space, a deeper vision and mission took shape that felt organic and specific to our school culture. That vision and mission continually evolves along with the space itself as we work, collaborate, and learn together.
